About our team

Dyslexia Specialists Ireland (DSI) is a national network of highly qualified professionals dedicated to supporting children, young people, and adults with dyslexia.

Our Qualifications

All members of DSI are practising, experienced teachers, accredited by the Teaching Council of Ireland. Each has completed the Master of Education (M.Ed.) in Specific Learning Disability (Dyslexia) at Dublin City University (DCU) – the first programme in the Republic of Ireland to provide this level of dual accreditation in dyslexia.

In addition, our members hold the following internationally recognised qualifications from the British Dyslexia Association (BDA):

  • Associate Membership of the British Dyslexia Association (AMBDA): This award recognises that the holder is qualified to both assess and teach learners with dyslexia, using evidence-based approaches.

  • Assessment Practising Certificate (APC): This certificate confirms that the assessor is fully qualified to carry out formal dyslexia assessments and produce diagnostic reports that are accepted for educational accommodations.

Together, these awards demonstrate that DSI members have the competences, knowledge, and professional skills recognised by both the International Dyslexia Association and the International Literacy Association.

Our Reports

All assessment reports written by DSI members follow the SpLD Assessment Standards Committee (SASC) guidelines. This means our reports meet the highest professional and ethical standards and can be used with confidence by schools, parents, universities, and employers when seeking appropriate supports or accommodations.

What We Do

  • Assessment – evaluating literacy strengths and challenges and providing clear, detailed reports.

  • Tuition – designing structured, one-to-one tuition programmes to support literacy development and build confidence.

  • Talks and Workshops - Our sessions are practical, evidence-based, and designed to support teachers, parents, and organisations in understanding and responding to dyslexia.

Who We Work With

DSI members provide support across primary, secondary, and post-secondary education, working in partnership with students, parents, teachers, and schools.
